"Knock up"; an explanation

On my article about nuclear batteries and memristers I mentioned about 'knocking one up'.

Feed back informs me that this is an English term which reads different in the Good 'ol Us of A.

UK = To make from scratch, to manufacture: to knock e.g. a door to gain attention ('I'll knock you up about 7am for work'.)
US = To make pregnant, etc.

I recall telling my mother-in-law that we would meet the next morning and that I would knock her up later - that didn't go down too well, as I remember.

Are we all sorted out now? good.
